post 01: Intro and welcome!

The year is 2003 and blogs are all the rage! I spent the last two weeks or so rebuilding the website to introduce a better blog platform and manage photos easier. Steeper learning curve than I expected but we’re here!

So seriously it’s 2026, why a blog?

  • Family and community. I’m hoping this is a better way to connect with those I’m closest with. Other social media platforms have their place, but the focus is different. Here I can write for me and for us, and not feel like I’m pushing for max reach and engagement.
  • Story telling. As stated above, you have to typically have to post videos typically to be seen, and trending audio just isn’t telling the stories I want.. Especially in wildlife photography there’s an adventure and process behind getting the shots. Somedays that adventure might be walking around your yard, where others you may be somewhere very remote. The animals we seek are fascinating and often have a story of their own before or after your photo as they interact with their environment. This blog provides the space to tell these stories freely without the forced templates and pressure to go viral.
  • More photos. I tend to be very selective with photos that make social media posts, only the best of the best. The longer any of my photos go un-posted, the less chance they ever will be. They can start to feel old, tired, less relevant, and less quality because they were never posted. This will give me a chance to share more of my photos with less pressure, help with story telling, and get these photos out there.

What to Expect? I’ve got a few topics in mind and I’m aiming for bi-weekly posts, with a few extras here and there.

  • Monthly wrap ups
  • Travel, locations, and events – past and present
  • Wildlife spotlights of different species
  • Photography gear and tools to include underwater photography and drones
  • Photography techniques, some tips on what works for me, experimental, and new trends
  • Managing Photography – storage, organization, goals
  • Video
  • What to do with your photos? Displays, printing
  • My photography and business journey (Can I return a modest amount of cash to fund my hobby?)

Let me know what you’re most interested in using the poll below!

*Disclaimer I am publishing this in September of 2026, but I’m starting posts going back to April so bear with me as I catch up!

Thanks for reading and hope to see you back for future posts!

Ryan
